Our feature car was introduced as part of the 2007 Corvette line-up to commemorate the career of Canadian racing driver Ron Fellows. While not a huge departure from the base model Z06 coupe, the Fellows edition Corvette does include a few discernible differences. These include: chrome wheels, a low-profile rear spoiler and a windshield banner emblazoned with the “CORVETTE” logo in white lettering. The car features an exclusive Arctic White paint scheme with Monterey Red (and silver accents) hash-style stripes on both the driver and passenger front fenders. The hash stripes, (which are often seen on race cars – including the Corvettes that Fellows himself drove), incorporates a maple leaf graphic into the striping to recognize Fellows’s Canadian nationality. The graphic also includes text which reads “ALMS GT1 Manufacturers Champion RON FELLOWS 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.” Fellows’ autograph is also incorporated into the fender hash stripes, making it the first autographed factory special edition in Corvette history. The car has a black/red interior scheme with a Z06 logo on the headrests and the unique carbon fibre pattern on the centre console which was exclusive to the Z33 RFE option code.
Our Club Member Bob Sagon-King is the proud owner of the car pictured here, which is signed and numbered (#251) by Ron on the underside of the console lid, and was originally delivered to the Chevrolet dealership in Victoria which means it was one of the 33 produced for Canada.
Bob and Caroline were looking for another Corvette, after selling Caroline’s C7 Z06. A trip to Gold Motor Garage was made to look over the Ron Fellows Edition car, but the price was somewhat shocking. After looking at some more Corvettes, Bob and Caroline returned to Gold Motor Garage to look at another possibility, but Caroline spotted the original RFE Corvette, and immediately convinced Bob that this was the car for him. Bob is quite grateful to John Mytroen for identifying the car originally, and to Caroline for sealing the deal.
It features the 7.0L (427 CI) V8 SFI engine, producing 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter. What made the car special to collectors and race enthusiasts alike was that it was the first, signed, limited-edition Corvette in the history of the model.
