Randy Colyn Restoration and Rod Shop

Our intrepid group of Corvette enthusiasts headed out to Randy Colyn Restoration and Rod Shop in Smithville on a cloudy, blustery Saturday morning. Randy and his lovely wife greeted us with coffee and cupcakes. We had a up-close look at his 1935 Chevrolet sedan and a look at some of his other projects, admiring his 1971 Chevelle SS restoration. Randy’s is a restoration shop that specializes in paint and body work on older cars and trucks, primarily pre-1975. Randy is happy to give any of us a quote on any work that we might be considering on our cars. After a visit and some pleasant banter with Randy, we headed over to Rolly’s Smokehouse in Smithville for an agreeable lunch, preceded by a challenging quiz put together by Craig. We battled the 15 tough questions, 9 of which were correctly answered by Larry Schmor. Larry was the proud winner of a trip to the cinema for two with snacks.  Our apologies to Jack regarding the question of when were disc brakes first offered, Jack was right when he said 1965, our sources were wrong. With this new information the judges are now reviewing the results of the quiz.

After lunch we headed towards Sting Ray Automotive with a stop at Mohammed Warsi’s place to view his new two-post lift. Mohammed was gracious enough to give us a demonstration of how the lift was installed and how it operates. We then continued our journey to the Sting Ray shop in Mississauga. Sting Ray provides mechanical restoration work on Corvettes of all vintages. We toured the shop, admiring various stages of mechanical upgrades on several vintage Corvettes. The shop has three lifts with eight Corvettes in the shop, it is compact but efficient. The staff was friendly and informative and took the time to answer all of our questions.
